The industrial area of San Clemente in the early 1940s, near Avenue Pico, was the location of Reeves Ranch, owners of one of San Clemente’s first industry Reeves Rubber, the San Clemente Dairy, and a furniture factory. (Courtesy of Bob Carrick.)

The San Clemente Industrial District covered 4 acres in the northeast end of town and operated there from the town’s incorporation onward. One industry was the San Clemente Tile Company, who made all the tile required by San Clemente’s building ordinances. Roof tiles were made the traditional way, shaped over a thigh before placing them to dry. (Courtesy of Bob Carrick.)
